Our Beliefs

​

We are a group of Bible believing Christians who seek to honour and glorify God by reverent worship of God in all our services and by preaching the good news of the gospel of salvation through faith in our Lord Jesus Christ alone.  We accept the bible, comprising of the Old and New Testaments, as the infallible Word of God and the only rule and authority for our Christian lives.  The doctrinal basis of the church shall be the whole counsel of God contained and expounded in the Scriptures.  These doctrines we believe are summarised in the Baptist Affirmation of Faith 1966.  These doctrines we believe in summary are:

1.  The Holy Scriptures

We believe that the scriptures as originally given and, by His singular care and providence, kept pure in all ages, are the inspired, infallible and inerrant Word of God. This Word called the Bible consists of the 66 books of the Old and New Testaments, and is to be received as the sole, supreme and all sufficient authority in all matters of faith and conduct.

2.  The Trinity of The Godhead

We believe in one living and true God, who is sovereign in creation, providence and redemption, eternally subsisting in three persons, the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. The clear testimony of scripture is that these three Persons are co-equal, having precisely the same nature, attributes and perfections, and are worthy of precisely the same homage, confidence and obedience.

3.  Creation

We believe that God created all things out of nothing as recorded in the historical record of creation given in the book of Genesis. We reject the theory of evolution, believing that God created all living creatures to continue within their own species.

4.  The Fall of Man

We believe that man was originally created in the image and likeness of God and was at peace with his Creator. However, by the sin of disobedience, the first man, Adam, fell from that high and holy estate and lost all its benefits. He became corrupt in his whole being, body and soul, and received the threatened penalty of death. Since Adam was the Head and Representative of all mankind, the guilt of sin was imputed, his corrupt nature was conveyed and death was inflicted upon all his descendants. This rendered them incapable of any spiritual good and unable to please God or to contribute in any way to their salvation from sin.

5.  The Covenant of Grace

We believe that upon the fall of man, God began to reveal and apply His eternal plan of redemption. This plan is known as the Covenant of Grace in which the Father is the Originator, the Son the Executor and the Holy Spirit the Applier. Out of His mere grace, God the Father, as originator of that Covenant, chose in Christ certain of mankind to everlasting glory.

6.  The Person and Work of the Lord Jesus Christ

We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ, the incarnate Son of God is the mediator of the Covenant of Grace. His essential deity and true sinless humanity were mysteriously joined at his Incarnation.  We believe in His virgin birth, His perfect life. His vicarious sufferings and His substitutionary atoning death on the Cross, where He openly triumphed over Satan, Sin and death.  We believe in His bodily resurrection, His ascension into heaven, His kingly reign and His present priestly intercession for His people at the right hand of the Father, from whence He shall come again in power and glory.

7.  The Holy Spirit

We believe in the personality and deity of the Holy Spirit, the third person of the Trinity, whose supreme work is to reveal the things of the Lord Jesus Christ and to glorify Him. In His activities He convinces and regenerates sinners, comforts, guides and assures believers and empowers the church in its mission on earth. He also enables us to die to sin and live to righteousness.

8.  Justification

Justification is an act of God’s free grace whereby He pardons sinners and accepts them as righteous in His sight because of the righteousness of Christ imputed to them and received by faith alone. Thereby adopting them into his family where they are given the privileges of being children of God. This gives eternal security based on God’s purpose and not on the good works of the believer.

9.  The Return of the Lord Jesus Christ

We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ will return personally, visibly and gloriously as the appointed Judge of all mankind. Upon His return, there will be the resurrection of the just and the unjust, and the transformation of those who remain alive, each to receive reward or sentence. The earth as it is at present shall be no more, and the redeemed shall take their place in the New Heaven and the New Earth. The unsaved shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the glorious presence of the Lord.

10.  The Church

We believe that the Universal Church consists of the whole number of God’s elect, that from Adam have been, are being and shall be gathered in one body under Jesus Christ the Head, and is the fullness of Him that fills all in all. We believe that the scriptures teach that the Church, this mystical body of Christ should manifest itself in local autonomous congregations, whose members are baptised in water on confession of faith. Among them, true doctrine is to be preached and the ordinances and discipline observed in accordance with the Word of God.  We believe that preaching is central to the communication of the gospel and is that usual means whereby God makes known His saving mercies.

11.  Baptism

We believe in baptism by total immersion in water, signifying death to the old man, burial with Christ and resurrection to newness of life. Baptism is to be administered to those who believe in Jesus Christ as Saviour.  Baptism is not essential to salvation, but is observed in obedience to the Lord’s command.

12.  The Lord’s Supper

We believe that the Lord’s Supper is a memorial of the death of our Lord Jesus Christ until His coming again. It is not a sacrifice. Thus the bread and the wine retain their original substance and are but symbols of the body and blood of the Lord.  In partaking of the Lord’s Supper, as with the hearing of the Word of God, there must be the exercise of faith, that we might know profit to our souls.
